What Makes Your Team Tick?: Taking Your Team to the Next Level of Superior Performance

Overview

I wrote this book to share the knowledge I have acquired over more than three decades of managing construction crews in the heavy civil construction industry, specifically my expertise in developing leaders. Being a builder and seeing the finished product of infrastructure that I had worked on was always, and still is, a thrilling experience. When I began to focus on developing supervisors into real leaders and watching them grow in their careers, I came to realize that building people was even more satisfying. Knowing that I had an integral part in helping them find the hidden talents and leadership skills inside themselves that they never knew were there, and then developing those talents and skills to become the best version of themselves, was awe-inspiring. I became obsessed with it, and yes, I still am! Being a mentor, teaching and training, and having a significant positive impact on someone's life is basically priceless. I decided to make a business doing it. As I worked with clients, I soon realized my reach would always be limited because there is only one of me! Subsequently, I made it a goal to share my methods of leadership development and team building in a way that others could read, study, and learn from. Hence, this book was born. Years of trial and error developed this process into a distinct flow and method from start to finish. As you read through the chapters, envision the flow of training a future leader. From the perspective of learning, understanding, and achieving the art of absolute teamwork to what it truly means to be a leader, knowing your role as a leader, what you expect from your team, the importance of effective communication, showing your team you really care about them, never giving up on the continuous improvement mindset, lighting the fuse of ""want,"" the power of praise, and finally the ""holy grail' of motivation."" To take yourself and your team to levels of performance that you have never experienced before. My hope and prayer is that this book will help you get there.
