Overview

Have you ever wondered if you are going to hell? Many people are terrified about going to hell when they die. And for good reason. If hell is a fiery torture chamber where lost souls scream in agony for all eternity, everybody should be worried about meeting such a terrible fate. But is this really what the Bible teaches about hell? In What is Hell?, author J. D. Myers answers your most pressing questions about hell. After summarizing the three common views about hell, this book presents a fourth view. Myers defends this alternative view by showing how the concept of hell evolved over time, and then considers eight terms from Scripture that have traditionally been equated with hell. As you read, you will learn the truth about hell. You will discover what hell is, where hell is, how you can avoid going to hell, and how you can rescue people who are in hell. The book includes an Appendix which explains most of the key biblical texts that have traditionally been used to defend the doctrine of hell. Read this book to be delivered from both the fear and fire of hell.

This may be Jeremy's best book yet! What is more important than defending God's character? Jeremy shows in a scholarly but readable way that the traditional understanding of Hell does not actually exist. The Great News is that you don't have to defend or imagine God tortures people for beliefs while living for a short time on earth. -Mike Edwards What-God-May-Really-Be-Like.com In What is Hell? Myers offers a very in depth, well-researched, and convincing reassurance that the modern orthodox teaching of the heinous doctrine of hell is undeniably false. There is no way, as Myers demonstrates with overwhelming evidence, that God's character could possibly be compatible with rejecting or torturing any of His/Her children for any length of time. -Julie Ferwerda Author of Raising Hell: Christianity's Most Controversial Doctrine Put Under Fire I grew up in a strongly Hyper-Calvinist Church. They taught that my value as a human being was equal to brokenness and being no more than a mist. To add to this notion was the picture of eternal damnation awaiting those whom God did not choose to be saved. Damnation was a place called hell which was filled with fire and eternal misery without any escape. This is what I believed for decades until I read Jeremy Myers' latest book, What is Hell? His careful and balanced research into what the Bible was really teaching about hell is excellent. It debunks the 15th century view of the violent hell which came out of the confused thinking of church leaders of that time. This book is a must read for all people concerned about what happens to us in the afterlife. Jeremy demonstrates that a fiery hell doesn't exist after death, but instead exists in this life pulling people into misery, violence, grief, sorrow, and poverty. He shows that Christ has the keys to the gates of hell in this life, and has opened these gates so we can enter in and help those who are trapped within. Read his book it will bring you peace in your soul about eternity, especially if you accept Jesus for eternal life. -Grahame Smith, Crisis Counselor SoulCareCounselling.com Forget what you think you know about hell! In straightforward language, Jeremy systematically rebuts the view of hell on which many Christians have been brought up. He demonstrates that the traditional understanding is based on coopting verses from Scripture to support extra-Biblical ideas. You will find this book both instructive and eye-opening with a surprising vision of what hell could really be like. -Michael Rans International Church of Copenhagen reddit.com/r/cruciformity/ This book is certainly not another run-of-the-mill read. Though not pedantic, it is scholarly and quite thought provoking and challenging. It urges us to rethink don't-rock-the-boat theology. Jeremy exposes old wives tales about hell that most of us have been unwittingly fed and haplessly swallowed. Going through this book prayerfully will reveal the tremendous effort he has exerted, in love, to display God's ultimate goodness and grace. -Nizam Khan
