Author Information

Dick Nelson was born in 1929, grew up in Brockton MA, 6th of 8 children, and began life during the Depression. He graduated from Boston University, which he attended on the GI Bill after military service in the mop-up phase of WWII. He taught two years stateside before adding three in overseas schools with the children of service personnel. He was encouraged to think about becoming a counselor and sought education at Ohio University where he completed a master's degree, then decided to stay on for a doctorate. At Ohio U, he met and married the love of his life and his partner for over sixty years, Betty Mitchell Nelson. After three other stops he accepted a position at Purdue University from which he retired as a full professor, having offered leadership in elementary school counseling for over thirty years. Among his other ventures, he has been a traveler, a singer, a swimmer, and a ""pasteller,"" Count him as a lover of his fellow human beings to whom he is pleased to be able to contribute, especially for the benefit of children in the Greater Lafayette area, at present, and, through endowments, long into the future.
