Findlay, whose specialty is population geography, is Emeritus Professor in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. Paul White's major research interests have lain in population, social and urban geography with particular reference to comparative studies within Europe. He has written or edited over ten books on these topics and over 100 papers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
