OverviewAt the invitation of Viscount Marcel of Cerisay, 10-year-old Raoul joins his parents for a gathering of powerful nobles. Raoul, however, has no interest in the noblemen. Instead, he befriends Mac, the son of songstress Louise, who has been hired to entertain the guests. The first night in the castle brings mystery-a woman's screams seem to come from the hearth in Raoul's room. The next day, he and Mac exchange notes on the mysterious screams and decide to investigate. A ghostly encounter leads the boys to a secret crawl space above the attic, where they find a treasure trove of ancient antiquities-silver medallions embossed with wolves, an ancient text depicting a wolfish beast, vials of dried potions, and most curious, invisibility rings that Raoul and Mac use to sneak around the castle without being seen. As the screams continue night after night and the nobles fall ill with a strange sickness that makes them crave raw meat, Raoul and Mac, along with their mothers, seek the expertise of village forge master Pippen and his wife Jolene to help them understand the mysterious artifacts they found. The boys have stumbled upon a family curse at Cerisay Castle, in which the descendants are werewolves. When the full moon appears during the spring equinox (a time when the ancestral portal opens), Raoul and Mac are determined to protect their own families before they too are initiated into the werewolf's curse.
