Wendell Castle: A Catalogue Raisonne 1958-2011

Overview

This substantial and wide-ranging catalogue raisonne chronicles the prolific career of prominent artist Wendell Castle, who is best known for his distinct and timeless furniture designs. Born and raised in Kansas, Castle took up residence in Rochester, New York, in 1961 and began teaching at the School for American Craftsmen. For more than forty years, he has been at the vanguard of contemporary, sophisticated, and unusual designs - sometimes quirky, often emblematic, always uncommon and memorable. In addition to myriad solo and group exhibitions, Wendell Castle is also the recipient of several notable awards, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY (2007); Outstanding Achievement Award, The National Association of Schools of Art & Design, Los Angeles, CA (2003); Distinguished Achievement Award, University of Kansas School of Fine Arts, Manhattan, KS (2002); and the Lifetime Achievement Award, The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester, Rochester, NY (1998).
