WELLNESS AND HOLISTIC PHYSICAL THERAPY incorporates APTA Guide's 3.0, healthy People's Leading Health Indicators, and up to the minute evidence-based information. APTA's Patient/Client Management Model is enhanced with holistic tools such as the Stages of Wellness, Brief Teach, Guided Exploration, and Motivational Education. Research supporting complementary medicine (e.g., Tai Chi, cupping, acupressure) and 'forward thinking' concepts such as the whole-food, plant-based diet (WFPBD) and CBD and explored and applied to the provision of physical therapy. "Sharon Fair earned her Bachelor of Arts degree 'with distinction' from the University of South Florida at St. Petersburg in 1981. During that year, she and her brother Michael also founded FLORIDA FITNESS, which eventually evolved into the WELLNESS SOCIETY. Sharon began her career in health and wellness as a fitness instructor and obtained an ACSM certification. She later earned a Master of Science in Education with a major in exercise and nutrition science from Queens College, part of the City University of New York system.After gaining experience as an exercise physiologist in Miami, Florida, Sharon relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where she served as the chief exercise physiologist at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center's Maryland Metabolic Institute. A few years later, she decided to change careers and earned a degree in physical therapy from the University of Maryland at Baltimore Medical School. While raising her daughter in Florida, Sharon earned a Certificate in Online Learning and a PhD in Education in 2004 and 2005, respectively, from Capella University. The title of her dissertation was ""The Fitness Self-Wellness of Physical Therapists."" During her doctoral studies, Sharon created the ""Triad of Wellness,"" which gradually matured into the ""Model of Holistic Physical Therapy"" and is presented and discussed in this textbook. Since her entry into physical therapy in 1993, Sharon has been licensed and enjoyed practice in Maryland, Hawaii, and Florida. Following a year in the rehab setting, Sharon began her career as a home health physical therapist. Sharon also served as an associate professor at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences from 2000 to 2008. While there, she instructed courses in, among others, The psychological and ethical aspects of PT, Administration and management, Gerontology, Wellness, and Professional development. She also served on numerous committees, chaired the Exit Exam and University Curriculum committees, and was appointed by Stanley Paris, PT, PhD as Chair of the Wellness Task Force for the Compendium of the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences (2008). Dr. Fair has provided numerous seminars at the local, state, national, and international levels, including two platform presentations at APTA's Preview 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005. She has created and presented numerous continuing education courses in topics ranging from the psychological aspects of physical therapy, complementary medicine, mental illness stigma, and home health physical therapy. In 2019, she began to offer continuing education seminars for physical therapists through the Wellness Society. Dr. Fair's first textbook, WELLNESS AND PHYSICAL THERAPY, was published by Jones and Bartlett in 2010. The current edition is titled WELLNESS AND HOLISTIC PHYSICAL THERAPY to encourage physical therapists to appreciate that the best physical therapy is always HOLISTIC in nature. LaTasha Blanton authored the section ""African Americans and Wellness"" of WELLNESS AND HOLISTIC PHYSICAL THERAPY. Dr. Blanton, a Doctor of Physical Therapy since 2004, has owned and operated multiple private outpatient facilities for 10 years. In the recent past, she sold her practices and started a travel and tourism company, The Real South Africa, that allows her to live full time in South Africa. To keep up on her skills as a physical therapist, she owns and operates Jade Virtual Physical Therapy. Both in travel and virtual physical therapy, Dr. Blanton ensures her energy is at its highest positive vibration before engaging with a patient/client. She truly believes we receive the energy we give. Dr. Blanton has been married to Mark E. Blanton since 2007 and he is her business partner in all endeavors. Dr. Booth authored the section ""Pelvic Health and Wellness"" of WELLNESS AND HOLISTIC PHYSICAL THERAPY. ackie Booth has been working as a Pelvic Health Physical Therapist for six years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stetson University in 2007 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Florida in 2014. Following graduation, Jackie underwent specialty training (including Pelvic Floor Level 1, 2A, 2B; Oncology and the Female Pelvic Floor; Oncology and the Male Pelvic Floor, Sacroiliac Joint Evaluation and Treatment, Mobilization of Visceral Fascia: The Urinary System; Coccyx Pain: Evaluation and Treatment; The Balloon Catheter - Application and Clinical Reasoning) and continues to attend courses through Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Booth and her husband reside in Gainesville, Florida."
