Gary D. Rhodes,Ph.D. (Cherokee) is a filmmaker and film historian. He is the author of over fifteen books on the cinema, among themThe Perils of Moviegoing in America(Bloomsbury, 2012) andThe Birth of the American Horror Film(Edinburgh UP, 2018). Rhodes' work has appeared in theWashington Post, theHuffington Post, theNew York Daily News, and many other newspapers, magazines, and peer-reviewed journals. His films include Lugosi: Hollywood's Dracula(1997) andBanned in Oklahoma(2005), the latter released by the Criterion Collection. His latest animated film,Ulalume(2023) has won seven awards. Having been tenured faculty at The Queen's University (UK) and the University of Central Florida, Rhodes currently serves as Professor of Media at Oklahoma Baptist University.
