OverviewThe story is an exploration of the human psyche by the juxtaposition of a shame suffered silently by two girls from France during their visit to India and the struggle between the selected plants and the weeds in a garden in the house of the central character. Why do we have a garden? Is it only to admire? Is it exclusively for the plants we grow? or is it also meant for the weeds which grow inadvertently in the garden. This struggle is brought out by the incident of a an unruly character shamelessly asking the French girls whether they could come to a hotel room with him and his friend. A sort of ugly shame pervades the story. The garden is not only what you allow or care to grow in a selective manner.....The garden is as vast as the mind. Perhaps the weeds struggled with the thought that the hand of God or the gardener will come to remove them. That seems to be a never ending wait because that is not going to happen . The story explores the idea of a weed becoming a weed and ultimately wanders off to the question whether they are weeds at all. To put it in the human context, the story is about the situations and circumstances under which a person brings out the negative side intermittently throughout his existence. There is a sort of suddenness and wonder as to the origin and the end of such occurrences. Well, you have a central incident around which the human elements are played out. Hope you have a good time reading it.
