We the Dogs DC is a 501c3 organization that is led by five women from the DC area who met on Instagram through accounts set up for our dogs. We wanted to find a way to work with the community to raise money to help benefit local animal rescue organizations, and we discovered that we could have a far greater impact for these organizations by combining offline fundraising events with online outreach. In August 2017, we founded We the Dogs DC. By using social media and the extensive network we have built, we are able to leverage the use of these platforms to stay connected with our supporters, publicize events and ongoing fundraising projects, and instill a sense of community among DC area dog owners and animal lovers. In addition to our fundraising efforts, We the Dogs DC maintains a community Instagram account: @wethedogsdc. Each day, a new person and their dog takes over the account and posts photos of their day. The account offers a unique perspective on local dog friendly locations
