As a child, Chris Coyle had the wonderful experience of growing up part of each year in Maine in a rustic backwoods cabin-one of the happiest chapters in his life. Although an only child with no other children to play with, he never once felt bored nor unable to find anything interesting to do. In the days before cell phones, computers, and even before his folks owned a television set, he found his own amusement and learned from the world around him. We Lived in the Woods is the story of summers from more than two decades in the great state of Maine. We Lived in the Woods includes memories of living in and growing up at the log cabin along with interactions with wildlife, mountain climbing and exploring back roads, railroads, and quarries as well as meeting the people of Maine. We Lived in the Woods includes photographs, many taken during the author's summers at the cabin.

After his birth in a small, country hospital in Hartland, Maine, in 1960, Chris Coyle grew up summers in a log cabin in central Somerset County, Maine, where he developed a great appreciation for the world around him and the people of the Pine Tree State.Retired from some forty years at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, as a researcher, he managed veterinary and animal sciences laboratories and later inventoried chemicals for environmental health and safety. He holds an associate's degree in animal science from the UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture, a bachelor's degree in animal science from UMass, and a master's degree in library and information sciences from the University of Rhode Island.He served on the railroad advisory board of Palmer Public Library and authored parts of the book One Town and Seven Railroads. Always interested in New England history, especially of railroads, he has also authored articles for magazines and other publications.
