Waves & Waves & Waves: On War, Love, and other Trivialities

Overview

Life is water. Water is life. The motif of water is ever-present. Drops of luck. Pouring anger. Draining sadness. Gushes of adrenaline. Lake of knowledge. River of wisdom. Waves of worry clashing, crashing, colliding into my mind. Waves of passion, of protest, of power; waves of highs, of lows, of in-betweens; waves of woe, of wonder, of war; waves of lust, of love, of life. And amidst all this water, I try to swim through it all. Through the love, the wars, the other trivialities that life has in store for me. Submerging in the oceans of possibility, of experience. Sometimes I float, sometimes I drown. Sometimes I prefer one, sometimes the other. Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes colliding, cleansing, crashing into me like waves & waves & waves. Swim float drown against the waves waves waves words gush out on the page beyond my control and I am left dry. For now.

Author Information

Laura-Elena Mireanu graduated in English Literature and History from Durham University in 2022, before beginning her career as a Secondary English Teacher. Following the publications of a handful of historical journals, Laura decided to focus her attention on more creative mediums of expression. Her dissertation, focusing on interpreting 20th-century American minimalistic poetry using Heidegger's phenomenological existentialism, inspired her poetry. Whilst experimenting with the limits of language, she wished to present the many states of existence to reflect the fundamental experience of being alive.
