His research interests are under the general umbrella of renewable energy systems, energy & fuel, green technology, environmental sustainability, solar thermal systems, and waste management. He has published more than 200 high impact SCI journal papers with H-index 60. He has delivered several keynotes, plenary, and invited talks at international conferences. He has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher for three consecutive years since 2019 (Engineering) by Clarivate Analytics. Currently, he is Associate Editor of Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, Alexandria Engineering Journal, Energies, e-Prime and guest editor in FUEL, Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery and Catalyst etc. as well as an editorial board member for several other journals. Prof. Ong is also a Core Group Member of APRU Sustainable Waste Management (SWM) program. Dr Islam Md Rizwanul Fattah is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Technology Sydney, where he researches the effective use of waste for sustainable use energy applications. His research interests stem from his PhD in the combustion of renewable fuels completed at the University of New South Wales in 2019 where he focused on reducing diesel combustion emissions (particularly PM/soot). Dr Islam Md Rizwanul Fattah was named one of the Top 2% of Scientists in the World in 2021 by Elsevier and Stanford University. He was also featured as one of the 'Research Rising Stars' (one of the top 5 researchers in Engineering and Computer Science in Australia within 10 years into their career) for his outstanding achievements in a September 2019 Special Report by The Australian. He is actively engaged in the field by publishing over 75 articles and gaining over 4500 citations of his works. He is serving as an Editorial board member at Energies and Highlights of Sustainability. He is also managing eight special issues as 'Guest Editor'.
