Lemann studied mechanical and process engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich ETHZ. Between 1979 and 2000, he worked in various companies as an engineer, project manager and technical director. Today he is head of an independent company. Since 1990 he has been teaching ""Abfalltechnik (Waste Management)"" at the ETH Zurich. He has published several books and numerous articles on the topic.
