Bishop Brookhart has teased out amazing images from Scripture, liturgy, and daily life to stimulate our spiritual imagination and deepen our knowledge of the sacraments. This resource will be a gift to pastors, catechists, teachers, and all who want to lead their people more deeply into the meaning of baptism, Eucharist, and the sacraments more generally. --J. Neil Alexander, Professor of Liturgy and Quintard Professor of Theology, University of the South This book is a compelling invitation to enter into the sacramental life of the church, and in particular the sacraments of baptism and Eucharist. The author makes clear that at their core and center is nothing less than an encounter with the risen Christ. What flows from that encounter, and the life it calls us to lead, makes this book a timely challenge to seekers and those seeking to deepen their relation to the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. --Frank T. Griswold, 25th Presiding Bishop and Primate, The Episcopal Church In Washed and Well-Fed Frank Brookhart has done it again. Without a doubt he has hit the proverbial bullseye by making a much-needed teaching accessible to a wide audience. This piece on the central sacraments of our faith is forming and transforming. Bishop Brookhart helps us see how the sacraments shape us in the likeness of Jesus the Christ and deploy us into the world to live and serve in his name. --Gregory Vaughn Palmer, Resident Bishop, West Ohio Conference, United Methodist Church Frank Brookhart reveals himself as pastor and teacher in making central themes of sacramental theology accessible and inviting, especially to those seeking to be newly formed in the faith, but to all of us in need of remembering who we are as beloved children of God claimed by Christ. . . . Brookhart guides us to see and fall in love again with that beauty ever ancient, ever new. --Mark R. Kowalewski, author of Traveling Home: Tracking Your Way through the Spiritual Wilderness
