Warm Embers Burn Deep

Overview

A journey of endurance! Layn Barlow, a former British lieutenant in the War of 1812, became an ingrained American fur trapper after the war. A United States general at Fort Belle Fontaine requested him to undertake an almost impossible mission: to transport C.C. Cottonwood- Humphrey and a black slave, Ben, across the expanse of the American West from St. Louis to Camp Williams located in the Oregon Territory. Soon it would be the dead of winter, and they would have to travel across the flattened plains of the Missouri Territory and over the Rocky Mountains and past the Salt Lake to reach their goal. The country was undergoing extensive changes during this time. Uncharted dangers and hazards, unsettled national land borders, native restlessness, and questionable individuals characterized the American West of the United States. The trip was a challenge of endurance, dependability, and trust. Each of the trio knew they would have to rely heavily on the others. Yet they were unaware of how the trip would change them individually and open up new, unimaginable life opportunities. Despite the interference in Layn's regular trade, he was also intrigued by the mission at hand. Little did he know of the many secrets the other two held that would change his entire outlook. Furthermore, his existence and the life he led would be in danger if he were to protect the unknown mission and the lives of his traveling companions. A compelling adventure romance story set after the War of 1812!
