Amazon Customer 5.0 out of 5 starsJeffrey Archer for real!!!!! 28 February 2017 Format: Paperback Jeffrey Archer for real!!!! This is an amazing story about a real person growing up in Germany during and after the second world war. Absolute respect for how Annalisa managed to survive and always believe that there would be a brighter future. The humour, tragedy and total survival attitude that Annalisa and her father had is inspiring. For once, a story that although has to deal with harsh and brutal choices is done in a way that it s inspiring not depressing and makes one hope that Annalisa would be their life coach: ) Hopester 5.0 out of 5 starsA very good read, easy to visualise the passage of youth from a girl to a beautiful young woman set against a Europe torn apart. 9 February 2017 Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase A very good read. Really easy to visualise the passage of youth in a war torn era. This insight into the day to day struggle of life, loves and more simply having enough to eat is made all the more poignant through its acceptance as a normal existence. As a young girl. Annalisa simply saw and accepted change in day to day life that most of us look back on and think of as massive moments in history. Complicated but honest descriptions of her first Loves against a backdrop of small town prejudice haunt the entire book. Lovely humorous story about the pushbikes, but no spoiler from me. Do the English, Italians, Russians, Americans and Germans fit their stereotypes as portrayed in films. Look at Annalisa's descriptions as one who was close to them all to judge for yourself. If you want to see a different side, more realistic and openly honest story set in wartime this won't let you down.
