Wanderer, actor Sterling Hayden's autobiography (first published in 1963), is a fascinating look at a complex, handsome, articulate man who loved the sea and sailing, served bravely in the OSS during World War II with Yugoslav partisans, was briefly a member of the Communist Party, appeared in numerous motion pictures while in reality despising much of Hollywood, and voyaged across the Pacific with his four children in his schooner, the Wanderer. Hayden (1916-1986) also provides insights into his marriages and divorces, his appearance before the House Un-American Affairs Committee, and his hopes and visions for the post-war world
