As anyone knows who has walked the Camino, it's not just a long walk. It can become an important voyage of introspection. Timothy Phillips Travelers are searching for the meaning of life and finding answers. Sharon Huether In our day and age, there seems to be a universal need for reflection, for simplification, for slowing down ... for opening up one's mind and exploring who you really are, where life had taken you, and where you would still like to go. I sincerely recommend 'Walking on Edge' as a gripping and thought-provoking novel. The more I read, the harder it became to put the book down! Author Reino Gevers has numerous Caminos to his credit. I have yet to fulfil this dream. This book was rewarding on so many different levels: a good and gripping story, well written, with enlightening information on the pitfalls and rewards of walking the Camino, knowledgeable about aspects of history and architecture in an off-the-cuff manner, integrating facts with the story. Renee van Zyl One of the highlights of this novel is the skill of its author, Gevers, to interweave adventure, history and spiritual principles in just the right mix - not too much and not too little. A book highly recommended on all levels. Barbara von der Osten I found Walking on Edge to be a fascinating story of life on the Camino de Santiago across Spain, as experienced by a number of caminantes along The Way. James R. Ruegg I found this book most informative, uplifting, entertaining and inspirational - highly recommend it to all - not just those who have done or are contemplating doing the El Camino Santiago! Josef Martin Loved this book. A spring-cleaning of the mind. Incredibly powerful. A narrative journey that will suck you in and give you new perspectives on the road to self-discovery. Jan Vlok The genre Gevers is operating in can be tricky. Spiritual journey stories, in lesser hands, can quickly degenerate into preachy mysticism and New Age psychobabble. In addition, character can take a back seat to philosophizing that makes no sense except to the writer (George Orwell once bashed Henry Miller and the latter's cosmic pronouncements for operating in a Mickey Mouse world where ordinary rules don't apply ). Gevers does neither however, owing to his control of the material and his refusal to violate the cardinal rule of all types of writing: to clearly communicate with the reader. As a result, the characters Jake and his mystical guide encounter on their hike are more than mere one-dimensional oracles. Instead they emerge as characters in their own right. Ron Capshaw
