Reviews

Many guitarists have tried to incorporate walking bass lines in their comping and solo playing, perhaps emulating Joe Pass. It's not a style for beginners, but it can be developed with patience and the method found in this book. The first section is a guide to how bass lines are constructed beneath 3-note shell voicings, gradually adding more devices. The rest of the book has transcriptions of the author's playing -- different for each key -- featuring standard blues (including Bird blues), blues with a bridge, and minor blues. There are audio files for all the examples, which can be downloaded from the author's web site https: //constructingwalkingjazzbasslines.com. It is noteworthy that the author is also a jazz bassist, with several books about playing bass.
