It flows unimpeded for 106 miles from Lake Seminole - where the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers merge - through the Florida Panhandle into Apalachicola Bay and finally into the Gulf of Mexico. Author Information

Faith Eidse, public information specialist at the Northwest Florida Water Management District, was raised in Congo/Zaire, where her linguist father recorded oral histories along the Kwilu River basin. She is a former journalist and magazine editor, a 1996 Kingsbury Award winner, coeditor of Unrooted Childhoods: Memoirs of Growing Up Global and contributor to Between Two Rivers: Stories from the Red Hills to the Gulf. She has also taught at Florida State and Barry universities.
