Overview

This book is designed for three groups of students. The first group is the 7 to 12 year olds, who are working towards Key Stage 2 SATs Assessment Tests in Year 6. If you are in this group, then you are at the end of your Primary School stage, and are about to start Secondary School. The second group is made up of students who are preparing for 11+ exams for independent and grammar schools. This book provides a comprehensive course in spelling, and vocabulary development at this stage; together with comprehension and word-power development skills, needed for both verbal reasoning and creative writing. The third group is made up of 7 to 12 year olds, who work independently at home or in school. All of the books in this series are free-standing, so a child can work through each of them or focus on the individual subject needs of the child. You are encouraged to spell the words and learn the list of words and their definitions in the 60 Units that are provided. You are then encouraged to test your knowledge in the gap-filling exercises which follow each Unit. Additionally, testing the formation of words in different grammatical word classes, as well as practical Vocabulary Development Tests in Crossword puzzles; make the whole experience fun, empowering and enjoyable. In addition, helpful Tips to understand the structure of English are enclosed. One of the unique aspects of this Book is the fact that it presents a panorama of the United Kingdom via stimulating general knowledge Quiz Challenges that help to reinforce the idea that your knowledge of English must be holistic or well rounded, so that you enjoy your learning, not in a robotic way but alive to the creative world around you, which has given you the English language. A Certificate of Achievement is provided at the end of the book to give you a sense of reward for your hard work in completing the book. Answers for each Vocabulary Test are also provided at the back of the book to help you mark and evaluate your progress.

Roselle Thompson B.A. Hons, MPhil, FRSA has over 27 years of experience in teaching and education development in the UK; from Nursery to University levels. In addition to her academic lecturing and writing, Roselle has been creating, since 1994, intensive courses in a range of subjects, including English (language and literature), Verbal Reasoning and Public Speaking for children from as young as 5 years old, to GCSE Secondary and A level 6th Form. Roselle is also a Writer, Poet, Playwright and TV Broadcaster. As a Broadcaster and International Speaker, her approach is therefore to make her significantly accumulated skills available to her students for their personal empowerment, development and life-long success.
