OverviewThis interwoven story is about adoption and loss which highlights mixed emotions of sadness, anger, laughter and love. Catherine was a happy child, but she wondered why she was different from her musical parents. Growing up in the precincts of Durham Cathedral in the 1950s, she discovered she was adopted. She did not attempt to search for her birth parents until she was a mature woman and married with three children. The devastating news that her eldest child, aged thirteen, had an aggressive cancer put her search on hold. In early 1990, Catherine started the serious search for her birth mother who had been posted to London, from overseas, during the Second World War. The search turned out to be more difficult than Catherine could have imagined. Catherine explored every avenue regardless of the many barriers put in her way when looking for her birth mother. This is a true story about three mothers who all experienced sadness in different ways. One who could not have children, another who gave her child up for adoption and the other whose eldest child was afflicted by cancer.
