OverviewVigiliae and Notturno is the seventh volume of the Complete Edition dedicated to Heidegger's Black Notebooks. It contains notes form the workshop, as the philosopher calls these entries in three black oilcloth notebooks written between 1952 and 1957. The titles Vigiliae I and II and Notturno commemorate the night in which the thinker watches attentively to perceive and record what is happening. Thinking focuses on itself while at the same time sensitively registering important events such as the earth orbit of the first Soviet Sputnik satellite. The style of the notebooks approaches that serenity that plays such an important role in Heidegger's late thought. In this volume, then, Heidegger's thinking and writing is at the height of his mastery.
