Veneto in Cucina: The Flavours of Veneto

Overview

This book is a compilation of family food, love, memories, and time spent in Veneto. Be seduced by Venice, with its spices, seafood, small bites, and spritz. Travel inland and fall in love with Verona, where risotto is made with Amarone and the taste of red wine lingers. Discover the Prosecco Hills, where the meat reigns and the vines are a gift. Climb to the Dolomites for apples, mountain game, and skies so blue they feel like forever. Learn to cook baccalà from Vicenza or Mantecato from Venice. Find your way to the true recipe for tiramisù--after all, it was born right here in Treviso. In Veneto, polenta is made in many ways, either yellow or white, made as cake or simple fried, soft, or cut with a string. Cook with our spirit--making gnocchi, stirring risotto, and dreaming up cakes touched by the memory of Marco Polo's voyages. Take your place at our table, and taste the culture of a region where time is measured not in hours but in meals, memories, and stories. Welcome to our home--the land we are proud to belong to.

Author Information

Luciana Sampogna, the founder of Colline di Luce and Cucina Italiana Cooking School in Sydney, graduated from the Simili Sisters' school in Bologna, where she met her greatest mentors, Margherita and Valeria Simili. From there, she started one of her greatest adventures! Luciana set sail to New Zealand and there opened her first cooking school in Auckland in 1998. The media were quick to spot her talent as were the winners of the America's Cup, Alinghi. Luciana was responsible to train the chefs on Ernesto Bertarelli's multimillion-dollar yacht, Vava. In 2002, it was with great enthusiasm that Luciana then opened her cooking school, Cucina Italiana, in Australia. In Sydney, Luciana worked for the Italian embassy and looked after special events like the wedding of the daughter of the prime minister of Australia, Daisy Turnbull, as well as taking care of many sports events, including the opening seasons of the Wallabies, the Australian rugby national team. Luciana's work has been extensively covered by international media. In 2010, Luciana finally crumbled to students' requests and released her first cookbook, Light of Lucia, published by Murdoch Books. As the Sydney Cooking School proved to be a huge success, a sister school was opened in Venice on the island of Lido in 2013. In 2021, Luciana moved permanently back to Italy, and it is there in the Colline del Prosecco that she spends her time teaching students from all over the world. Franco Cogoli is a travel photographer based in the heart of Veneto, Italy. A professional since 2000, he is available for assignments in the fields of travel and food photography. He is also the photographer behind the upcoming book Friuli in Cucina and contributes to various editorial and territorial projects, including the development of a new image database for the city of Conegliano in Veneto.
