Der Autor Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Werner, Jahrg. 1944, hat in Theoretischer Elektrotechnik promoviert und am Heinrich-Hertz-Institut, heute Fraunhofer HHI, im Bereich der optischen Kommunikationssysteme geforscht. Danach war er mehr als 20 Jahre Professor für Übertragungs- und Vermittlungssysteme, optische Nachrichtentechnik und Codierungstheorie an der Fachhochschule der Deutschen Bundespost und der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft in Berlin.
