Reviews

Renne has written an exciting albeit challenging book. Readers unfamiliar with Nigeria and its complex history may feel overwhelmed at times by the sheer multitude of references to historic events and personalities. This notwithstanding, the book has a great many insights to offer to scholars of religious reform, Islamic dress and northern Nigeria. Everyone with an interest in these topics should read it. -- Hannah Hoechner * Islamic Africa *
