This is an excellent compilation of papers presenting concepts of vegetation ecology... It covers the more important concepts delving deeper into [the subject]... and does a great job of applying general ecologic principles to vegetation. Professor Evert Brown, Casper College This edited volume by Van der Maarel is a significant contribution to the field of ecology and will be particularly important to individuals studying plant community processes Professor Elise Pendall, University of Wyoming. I have looked over Eddy's outline for a multi-authored text on vegetation ecology. I think there is little doubt that there is an open niche for a textbook in this area. Also, Eddy has the background, insight and connections to produce a book that is both modern and comprehensive. The authors he has selected are generally strong and appropriate. I must start out with a strong affirmation that it is a good idea to work with Eddy on this project. Professor Robert Peet, University of Northern Carolina This is a book that is likely to supply answers to tough or detailed questions for many years to come and should be in every library. Author Information

Eddy van der Maarel is former Vice--President of the International Association for Vegetation Science; one of the founding editors of the Journal of Vegetation Science; and an honorary member of the British Ecological Society, the Royal Botanical Society of the Netherlands and the Swedish Phytogeographical Society. He has a special interest in vegetation dynamics and the application of vegetation ecology in nature conservation and planning.
