OverviewThe wood furniture industry always works with defect-free pieces, which highlights the commercial devaluation of wood with imperfections and the design of objects with defective wood. Corymbia citriodora sawn wood has a large number of natural defects due to the inherent characteristics of this wood. Pieces with these defects can be classified as low value-added or commercial waste. This work presents an experiment that seeks ways to add value to pieces with drying defects or natural formation defects in Corymbia citriodora wood. Panels formed by wood segments with knots and cracks were proposed to analyze, technically and aesthetically, the adoption of defects in the composition of the panels, adding value to the wood pieces and increasing sustainability in the production process by using wood segments that would otherwise be discarded. Within this context, these pieces are no longer considered waste but are now seen as a by-product of another production process.
