Sparks fly when Brooke Green, a rising star in the big city culinary scene, is called back to her tiny hometown of Valentine to care for her injured mother. On her journey, she encounters a helpless tuxedo kitten lost in a snowdrift and brings him to Valentine's only veterinarian, Dr. Tom O'Connell, a former classmate of Brooke's. It's been a lifetime since they saw each other, and he's not the girl she remembers; now he's a rugged, handsome, and infuriating man who accuses her of stealing when she insists on keeping the pitiful kitten she's already named Lucky. As a hometown boy, Tom's world is simpler than Brooke's, centered on the county's animals, his parents, and his mom's landmark restaurant, the Lady Anne. When just-visiting Brooke-his high school crush-takes off with Lucky against his advice, Tom puts out the word to the Valentine's gossip mill that she's got the kitten to compel her to let him care for it. Their back-and-forth over Lucky's care is almost as frustrating as how good she still looks to him, but what really sets them off is discovering that the Lady Anne's current head chef, Cassidy, is running the beloved institution into the ground. If Brooke and Tom can't find a way to save the Lady Anne before her annual Valentine's Day event, the small town's only fine dining establishment-and the town's beating heart-is doomed. From late-night recon missions together to a high-stakes banquet staged by Brooke herself, Tom and Brooke-with a little help from Lucky-take aim at the corruption and cruelty endangering a place that's precious to them both.
