OverviewUrban sprawl is a common phenomenon of urbanization in the world. Rapid population growth, especially in developing countries, is leading to increase the urban sprawl in Sub-Saharan countries. Understanding and quantifying urban sprawl and its driving factors through the analysis of the case of Bamako are important steps to formulate and propose effective policies to support adequate planning and management decisions for urban sprawl. The purpose of this book is to study urban sprawl and its driving factors in Bamako District using multi-temporal remote sensing and statistical data from 1990 to 2018. The characteristics of urban sprawl are revealed by using multi-level landscape pattern analysis and the driving factors are identified by applying field survey and factor analysis methods.
