Abstract: Abstract of thesis entitled Urban Design for Revitalisation of Tai Po Market Submitted by Yip Kin Man, Ernest for the degree of Master of Urban Design at the University of Hong Kong in September 2007 The most of urban design attribute value are scattered around the Tai Po Old Market Town. Since government has concentrated on the Tai Po new town development, the Tai Po Old Market Town's quality of physical form (open spaces, streetscape, landscape, building facade) started to decline recently. Close up to the Tai Po Old Market Town is still keeping the human scale urban form such as open spaces, streetscape, outdoor market and heritage buildings etc. If we don't care about this place, in future, then it will be demolished and replaced by a new development totally. To establish Urban Design framework, guidelines and design recommendations can enhance the place and revitalize the Tai Po Old Market Town. The objective of this research is to establish an urban design framework to enhance quality of place, livability and accessibility of Tai Po Old Market Town by studying its morphological urban changes. Guidelines, design recommendations for revitalizing the Tai Po Old Market Town would be suggested in the study. The suggestions can be offered to HKSAR government for improvement of quality of old town.
