OverviewPublished by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Antarctic Research Series, Volume 29. This is a second volume in the American Geophysical Union's notable series on antarctic research that is devoted to upper-atmosphere research. The first volume, Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, was published in 1965 and was a collection of IGY?]related papers edited by A. H. Waynick. The present volume consists of seven technical papers sandwiched between an introduction by L. J. Lanzerotti and C. G. Park and a final chapter on the early history of upper-atmosphere physics research in Antarctica. This volume is timely, first, because it describes present research activities and their much increased sophistication in the last decade and, second, because the historical account brings to light much important research hitherto unpublished.
