Unusual Occurrences on the Road to Unlimited Devotion

Overview

Unusual Occurrences on the Road to Unlimited Devotion is a collection of stories, perspectives, poetry, and opinions about the Grateful Dead scene as told by over 750 Deadheads, spanning roughly 30 years of the unique culture of the band and its fans, the Deadheads. The focus of this book is not what was happening on the stage, but what was happening out on the floor, in the hallways, out in the parking lots, highways, hotels and during the days between Grateful Dead shows. These stories are the tales that people remember as though they happened yesterday and form an unforgettable legacy. These are the experiences that changed people's lives, tales of magic, miracles, serendipity, catharsis, unmitigated fun, misadventures, cross-country traveling, metaphysical spirituality, and grilled cheese sandwiches. There is an axiom that two people standing next to each other at the same Grateful Dead show may have two completely different experiences. This book attempts to illustrate how that was not only possible, but also quite likely.

Author Information

Jonathan Seraphim was living in Eugene, Oregon when he lost his job of 13 years and decided to ditch the United States and see what life was like overseas. He spent six months selling most of his collected possessions, packed the rest into a friend's attic, and lifted off for SE Asia in September 2013. After four months of traveling around the region, it was time to return to the States. But the dye was set, the links back home were mostly severed, most everything was still packed, and it was winter and cold; he was ready to return in a month's time to the hot sun and brilliant colors of Thailand, ready to find a new career, life and love in a land he didn't speak the native language. Without looking back, he managed to spend the next decade living, working, and loving life in Thailand. Jonathan Seraphim is a graduate of the Evergreen State College, where he was a founding editor of the Evergreen Free Press. He worked in the Pacific Northwest Natural Foods' industry for over 17 years, helping to grow the industry to what it is today. Jonathan has also volunteered for the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, Oregon for over 14 years, and was very involved in the early Seattle and Portland rave community in the 1990s. He has three brothers, four nieces, one nephew, and is currently single; and he loves parrots. At the moment, Jonathan is working to live life by his own design, opening an on-line store to sell accoutrements for the soul and home - T-shirts, hats, hoodies, radical political Tees, children's clothes, baby clothing, women's leggings, blankets, shower curtains, rugs, canvas prints, candles, and rustic metal art signs. His store is called the Rose & Bone General store; it's really wickedly cool! Check it out!
