Overview

In this volume, the Berlin architectural historians Wolfgang Schache and David Pessier illustrate the eventful history of the building complex at the intersection of Unter den Linden and Charlottenstrasse, which is currently used by Deutsche Bank. Paying particular attention to the architecturalhistorical significance of the imposing ensemble, they reconstruct the foundation and evolution of this historic banking site—built in the nineteenth century by the Disconto-Gesellschaft—within the context of the history of the Dorotheenstadt neighborhood. Er hat zahlreiche Publikationen zur Architektur- und Stadtgeschichte des 9. und 2 . Jahrhunderts sowie zur Architekturtheorie und Denkmalpflege veroffentlicht. David Pessier ist Architekt, Bauhistoriker und Dozent fur Baugeschichte und Architekturtheorie. Er hat zahlreiche Publikationen zur Geschichte und Theorie von Architektur und Stadtebau des 9. sowie 2 . Jahrhunderts veroffentlicht. Wolfgang Schäche, is an architect and architectural historian. He has been Professor of Architectural History and Theory at the Berliner Hochschule fur Technik since 988. He has published numerous works on the architectural and urban history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, architectural theory and the preservation of historic monuments. David Pessier is an architect, architectural historian, and lecturer in architectural history and theory. He has published numerous works on the history and theory of architecture and urban planning in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
