Author Chyrel Jackson proves once again why she is a premier modern-day poet and this book, along with her previous acclaimed works with her sister Lyris, will undoubtedly be included as a collector series for serious poet enthusiasts. This is an exceptional piece of work! As a Southerner who was raised in the Midwest, I felt the down-home charm with many pieces like N'awlins Jazz Piping, Evolution of the Blues, Leave me Alone with my Blues, and Harold's Chicken with a side of Black Culture, just to name a small few are downright jaw dropping and thought-provoking. Then, there are spiritual passages like Walking as Servants and A Joyful People will put an eternal stamp on your soul, but Suffering in Silence made me tear up because it made me reflect on past traumas that were still unresolved. There's a stroke of genius in every single poetic expression; I'm just pointing out some select ones, but the entire book is a masterwork that left a profound impression on me. With Unsung Canaan Ballads, I can safely acknowledge that Chyrel Jackson is todays Maya Angelou, and if Miss Angelou were still present today, she would proudly place Chyrel Jackson in that Mt.
