Overview

The papers presented in this volume address recent practice, experience, and advances in unsaturated soils engineering. The magnitude of unsaturated soil concerns is clearly identified through the diversity of areas discussed and rational, unified approaches for dealing with these problems are examined. Topics include unsaturated soil mechanics, surface flux boundary modeling for unsaturated soils, soil water characteristic curves and flux boundary problems, collapsible soil engineering, structural fills: design, construction and performance review, evaluation protocol for repair of residences damaged by expansive soils, engineering experience with in-situ modification of collapsible and expansive soils, and computer modeling and applications to unsaturated soils.
