Excerpt from Universal Pal ography, Vol. 2 of 2: Or, Fac-Similes of Writings of All Nations and Periods, Copied From the Most Celebrated and Authentic Manuscripts in the Libraries and Archives of France, Italy, German, and England The Church of Ravenna being alluded to in this document, it is supposed to have been brought from thence in 1512, when that city was ravaged by the French. It was found in l 750 among the effects of a goldsmith of Paris, named Galle, whose widow presented it to the Bibliotheque Royale, where it has since remained.
