Unholy Ignorance

Overview

Unholy Ignorance is a book about the religious beliefs that many blacks in the south practice and propagate as their guiding light towards a higher truth - a truth above truth, which is seemingly impossible. The question to whether I believe this elusive higher truth leads to higher levels of intelligence or an increased ignorance, is self explanatory in my book. In UnHoly Ignorance, I put forth the philosophical argument that it is the religious beliefs of blacks that is a noteworthy reason for the epidemic of the deficit-intelligence found in southern black society, and that it will be a serious undertaking to save black children from carrying a cultural deficit-intellect into their adult lives. Deficit-intelligence is the inability to think on an intellectual level to reach well thought out rational conclusions about what makes sense and what falls outside the realm of rational thought. Religion today, as practiced by too many southern blacks, continues to darken the minds of southern black society by teaching that biblical scriptures are the only true means for deciphering the complexities of life. Biblical texts taught by ill-educated black preachers as the uncompromising absolute words of an all-powerful unseen God; and consequently, according to them, the only means by which the problems of the world can be justly resolved. The Bible was never intended to be a book of Godly prescriptions for healing every world problem. Its ultimate intend is to try and relay a profound religious experience, to the readers or listeners, that would heighten their understanding of life in order to give their lives meaning and direction in a world of mystery and uncertainty. In too many southern black churches, the Christian faith has become unintelligible as to its purpose for being, and needs to be brought into the light of questioning, as to what purpose it is serving?
