Overview

Polish Detective Inspector Karol Pac and Maja Nowak, who had recently been appointed as his replacement Detective Sergeant at Krakow Police Headquarters, were called to investigate a brutal murder in the Niepolomice Nature Reserve. As the investigation began, it was clear the victim had been a priest yet there were few if any clues as to who the perpetrators were. Like Police everywhere, the detectives found further crimes had to be solved particularly arresting and charging a member of the clergy whose acts of paedophilia against minors over a 20 year ministry. Krakow Prokurator Vrubel was determined to bring not only this paedophile to justice but also the senior clergy, within the various archdioceses of the Roman Catholic Church, who had aided and abetted in enabling the crimes to be repeated in differing Polish parishes. In the midst of collating evidence, the detectives are called to talk down a woman who was threatening to commit suicide by jumping off the Father Bernanke footbridge into the Vistula. These events were set in the context of the Polish Roman Catholic Church Bishops attitude of protecting the paedophile clergy rather than considering the victims together with those minors yet to have their young lives inextricably destroyed. In addition, the impact of PiS's 8 year misrule as the Government of Poland on the lives of the electorate is similarly exposed from controlling the Media to its unhealthy relationship with the Polish Church. The unexplained death of a relatively young Jagellonian Professor results in a fresh and further investigation landing 'in-tray' with again an absence for clues and leads. Against this intense workload, the detectives begin to build a relationship based on initially a glimmer of underlying attraction and later respect with the Rule of Law and Truth lying at the heart of Poland's democratic freedom.
