Reviews

PRAISE FOR UNFAIRIES: 'I loved everything about this book. It's just SO funny and it looks brilliant. Love the energy, love the palette, love the textures love the characterisation . . . Move over Tinkerbell, there's a new favourite fairy in town.' * Rob Biddulph, bestselling author of Draw With Rob and Peanut Jones * You'll be wowed when you step into the bustling, offbeat, technicolour Unfairies universe. It's brimming with wacky and lovable beasts, slugs, insects and ... fairies. Unfairies is anarchy at its best - Huw Aaron somehow makes making comics look effortless (they aren't). There isn't a single stiffly drawn or ugly mark in this book. Unfairies shows a real mastery of the form with spreads skilfully balanced between snappy, fast-moving panel sequences and big splash pages or double paged cross section maps that you could get lost in for hours. The sound effects and action bubbles and lettering are so nicely done. The dialogue is hilarious, the story is pacy and the illustrations are bursting with energy. Unfairies is enviably bonkers and I loved it. * Sheena Dempsey, bestselling author of Pablo and Splash * Unfairies is a wild, witty adventure. Pip and their scrappy crew of fairy misfits set off on an epic (and totally ridiculous) quest - packed with box fights, bug battles, and bonkers twists at every turn. The artwork is vibrant, alive, detailed in all the right places, and still bursting with energy and motion. Hilarious, irreverent, and endlessly charming - Unfairies is everything you want in a graphic novel and more. We loved every page. * Dan & Jason, creators of Barb the Last Berzerker and Blue, Barry & Pancakes *

Author Information

Huw Aaron is a Welsh cartoonist, author and illustrator, and the creator of the bestselling Sleep Tight, Disgusting Blob and Unfairies, both of which were shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2026 - a historic achievement. After a short and fairly hopeless career in finance, Huw found a niche as a magazine cartoonist, producing joke cartoons for, among others, Private Eye, Prospect and The Spectator. Huw then started making comics and illustrating children's books in his native Welsh. Since 2013, he has written or illustrated over 60 Welsh-language books, and has won numerous awards including the 2023 Tir na n-Og and Welsh Children's Book of the Year prizes. He was also founding editor of the comic Mellten, and presented the weekly art programme Cer i Greu on S4C. His newest stories are Monkeypig and Unfairies- Death by Toad. Huw's harshest critics - and his best friends - are his wife Luned and their two daughters.
