Table of ContentsReviewsThis book-length essay by Philip Lichtenberg is a comprehensive analysis of the pervasive role of oppression in our society, much of it unrecognized. The book is particularly interesting in that it outlines and emphasizes the part the victim plays in the victim-aggressor syndrome. Lichtenberg in no way minimalizes the difficulties in recognizing and coping with this pervasive problem. It is evident that he has mastered the theories of the various schools of psychoanalysis and Gestalt Therapy, as well as other therapeutic disciplines, and he utilizes them to develop a comprehensive psychological understanding. At the same time, he recognizes that social and political factors have to be confronted. (Isadore From) This is a timely and significant book that provides valuable insights into the psychosocial interior of oppression - how it is developed, enacted, and maintained at the interpersonal, organizational, and societal levels.
