Pica-the persistent desire to consume non-edible substances-is much more than an unusual eating habit. This book shows that pica is a complex interplay of biological, psychological, sensory, and cultural factors. It explains the role of nutrient deficiencies, neurobiological characteristics, emotional self-regulation, and social conditions, and explains why pica occurs particularly frequently in certain phases of life and in neurodivergent developments.
