Author Information

Ada J. Moore (1832-1877) was the pen name of Ellen Phillips, a resident of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and a widely published poet. She is considered Stevens Point's unofficial poet laureate. Under the Pines (1875) was her only collection. M. Wade Mahon is Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He teaches rhetorical theory, composition, eighteenth-century British and Irish literature, and legal writing. In 2024, he published Informal Education in Eighteenth-Century Ireland with Palgrave Macmillan. Also in 2024 he published an article in Eighteenth Century Ireland on eighteenth-century Irish poet Thomas Spring, who, like Ellen Phillips, deserves greater recognition. Lillian S. Mahon is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She is majoring in environmental education and interpretation, with a history and museum studies minor. She is active in the Portage County Historical Society. In 2024 and 2025 she played viola in the UWSP Orchestra. The jug band with whom she performs won a national competition in 2025.
