OverviewThis volume gathers poems written between 1991 and 2024, encompassing traditional ghazals and modern free verse. The book is graced with original artwork by Keyvan Mahjoor, offering an evocative visual complement to Amanat's poetic meditations. Abbas Amanat is an eminent historian and Professor Emeritus of History at Yale University, where he held the William Graham Sumner Chair. Born in 1947, Amanat is a graduate of Tehran's Alborz High School and the Faculty of Letters and Humanities at the University of Tehran. He completed his D.Phil. at Oxford University in 1981, focusing on messianic movements in 19th-century Iran. While primarily known for his prolific contributions to Iranian historiography, Abbas Amanat has also long composed poetry privately. This volume presents a curated selection of his Persian verse-testament to his literary sensibility and personal reflections through the years. His forthcoming scholarly works include books on the solar calendar and Iranian identity, and on foundational binaries in Iranian history.
