In this line of work, you quickly learn that trust and loyalty are more than just words—they are lifelines. Garry Clement is one of those rare individuals I have trusted implicitly for many years, both as a colleague and as a friend. I first came to know Garry in a professional setting, and even then, his reputation preceded him. He had the kind of presence that comes from having been in the thick of things—calm under pressure, sharp when decisions mattered most, and unshakably committed to the mission. Over time, I came to see more than just the professional. I saw a man who carried the weight of his experiences with honesty, humility, and even humor. That combination is rare in our world. This book captures that side of Garry—the side that has lived through the adrenaline of undercover work, the frustrations of bureaucracy, and the stark reality of dealing with organized crime at its rawest. But it also reflects the man I know personally: thoughtful, candid, and deeply aware of the human cost of this work. This book is a window into the life of someone who has stood at the crossroads where risk and responsibility collide. Garry doesn’t romanticize the work, nor does he sensationalize it. He tells it as it is—because that’s how he has always lived it. For me, this book is more than just another account of undercover operations or organized crime. It is the voice of a friend I deeply respect, a colleague whose integrity has never wavered, and a professional whose insights continue to shape the way we think about crime and security today. I am proud to introduce Garry’s story, and I am even prouder to have shared parts of this journey with him. If you want to know what it really means to step into the shadows and face the dangers most people never see, you couldn’t ask for a better guide than Garry Clement. -- John F. Walsh Author InformationGarry Clement relies on his 34 years of policing experience, having worked in roles as the National Director for the RCMP’s Proceeds of Crime Program, working as an investigator and undercover operator in some of the highest organized crime levels throughout Canada as well as being Chief of Police in Cobourg, Ontario for 4-years with a perceived mandate of leading amalgamation within Northumberland County. During Garry’s policing career, he received numerous awards and commendations for his investigative abilities. Garry has authored and/or co-authored several papers in national and international publications on organized crime, money laundering and the state of policing in Canada, primarily the RCMO. He has been widely quoted in numerous investigative publications, including “The Road to Hell” by Julian Sher and most recently, “Wilful Blindness” by Sam Cooper. Garry’s experiences make him an excellent, highly entertaining speaker for conferences, seminars and training programs. Garry is regularly featured in numerous television, documentary, and print media. Jeffrey Robinson is an American-born, internationally best‑selling author with over 30 non-fiction and fiction titles to his credit. He's widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost authorities on financial crime, money laundering, and organized crime. His 1995 investigative classic The Laundrymen is credited with bringing global attention to the scale and complexity of money laundering, establishing Robinson as “a recognized expert on organized crime, dirty money, fraud and money laundering,” with the British Bankers’ Association naming him “the world’s most important financial crime author.” He followed that foundational work with The Merger (1998), which explores organized crime’s consolidation into powerful transnational conglomerates, and The Sink (2003), which delves into offshore networks and dirty money in “paradise” jurisdictions. Robinson’s writings are not merely academic—they are a clarion call that the systems enabling global financial crime are deeply entrenched and often institutional.
