"When I first came into recovery in 2007 there was nothing around in terms of literature that came close to what I wanted or needed. There were alternative steps but every one of them changed the words that were hung at every meeting. I knew I needed to beat my addiction and I had found some hope in AA through the support of people in the rooms but I really struggled with the High power concept and the idea of a Christian God. To say I spat venom was an understatement. I had been a slave to my addiction and there was no way I was going to swap that for something else like a god who wasn't me. I was tired of being told ""you can only do this if you accept a Christian God"", so I thought...just watch me! Thus the book you hold in your hands was born. Based on over 8 years of continuous clean time, when I started writing, to this second edition where I am now over 11 years free from drink - still applying and evolving the processes so they continue to work for me. Making the decision to step into recovery is monumental. Knowing that help is there makes it easier. Recovery meetings are wonderful for building a community filled with support for the recovering addict or alcoholic, but to step into an AA meeting knowing the religious foundation that it is built on makes it hard for many of us to reach out for the help that we need. It becomes especially hard when you are a Satanist. Many associate being Satanic with a sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle , but to be Satanic means living life to our highest and fullest potential. We can't do that when we are mired down with out of control addictions. It is up to us to make the changes necessary to live within our power, and Ben Dean's book, Uncover Satan Recover Thyself is a powerful tool to use to find the strength it takes to live Satanic and Sober. It is a shame that the current approach to recovery is by treating addiction as a weakness of spirit and that the only way to recover is through submission of our will to god. Reading Ben Dean's book will give the Satanist in Recovery an approach that will resonate within their psyche. His method is grounded in science and Satanic philosophy. The way he delivers his message is down to earth and welcoming to the Satanic addict looking for support. As I read Uncover Satan Recover Thyself I often felt as if Ben was sitting across from me, sipping a cup of tea and encouraging me to believe in myself. His writing style is conversational, humorous and serious at the same time. My book is dog eared and underlined, and I often find myself reading a chapter or a paragraph when I need a boost of inspiration or reinforcement in my commitment to living clean. I've quoted Ben Dean's words in presentations at recovery meeting of all kinds, and they are always met with the approval of nodding heads. If you are looking for a sugar coated, fluff and buff approach to getting clean and sober, this book is not for you.
