Uncommon Wisdom at Work: Bolder Results. More Ease. A Wiser Way to Work and Live

Overview

Stop playing by the broken rules of work...there is a better way to have impact and success without sacrificing your well-being. Work isn't working for most people and our workplaces have never been more challenging. We inherited an old story about work that no longer serves us. It tells us success requires nonstop striving and proving, emotions are liabilities, worth is measured by output, scarcity is real, we're on our own, well-being is optional but stress is inevitable. These stories are broken yet so deeply ingrained, we just believe that's the way things are-yet they quietly fuel stress, resignation, and dissatisfaction, and rob us of our potential. We wait...for the ""right"" boss, the ""right"" system, better circumstances, or better timing, giving away our agency and power while unknowingly contributing to our own suffering (and the suffering of those around us). Meanwhile, the world has grown more complex. In today's post-truth world, where we can't even agree on the facts, much less collaborate across businesses, industries, or even countries, navigating the constantly shifting sands requires more than better processes or productivity hacks. It requires questioning the very rules of work, largely invisible to us, that we've taken for granted. Uncommon Wisdom at Work does exactly that. It's a compact guide (intentionally so) packed with big ideas and practical applications. Distilling decades of global leadership experience, it gives you frameworks you can use immediately-whether you're leading a team, navigating your own career, or coaching others. You'll learn how to: -Expand your effectiveness -start creating bolder results and impact now with more ease. -Break free from faulty thinking and outdated assumptions - uncover and challenge the invisible stories of work that fuel stress, scarcity, and self-sacrifice. -Thrive in chaos - lead with more mindful presence and greater resilience, even in uncertain, fast-changing times. -Practice more conscious choice - stop being reactionary and triggered in the face of work pressures. -Have more powerful conversations - For leaders and professionals, raise your game and those around you. For executive coaches, use these frameworks to spark deeper, more transformative client work... . . . and so much more. In Uncommon Wisdom at Work, Terrie Lupberger challenges the status quo you didn't even know was shaping your choices. Drawing on more than thirty years of coaching and consulting leaders across Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, nonprofits, and universities worldwide, she equips you with the awareness and practices to finally break free from the broken rules and rewrite the story of work.

""Terrie has put into words what so many people are feeling at work. This book is a rallying cry for modern professionals and a call to embrace both self-awareness and action in order to grow career aspirations without more effort and stress. Its vibrant, mindset-oriented advice arms you with practical tools and bold strategies to excel in today's workplace and build a work life marked by purpose, fulfillment, and ease."" -Tammy Lally, TED speaker: Let's Get Honest About Our Money Problems; author of Money Detox: Your Invitation to Liberation ""Greater self-leadership is the key to greater agency in a person's life. That's why I welcome Terrie Lupberger's contribution to the field. While there can be real satisfaction in getting a lot done it's only going to count if it's the right stuff that's getting done. Terrie gives us the tools to make sure we put our attention on what really matters. Each chapter helps us translate insight into action by ending with a Practice which we can experiment with should we choose. What's on offer then is the opportunity to marry the right kind of doing with a better way of Being. Thank you, Terrie."" -Ian McDermott, Founder of International Teaching Seminars; International consultant; author and co-author of fifteen books that have been translated into over twenty languages, ranging from The Art of Systems Thinking (1997) to NeuroEffective Leadership (2025) ""There are multiple points in our lives and careers when we realize that our growth so far has been enabled by learning, perceptions and actions that, while useful, won't serve the next stage of increasingly complex problems and opportunities. Terrie's thoughtful questions and challenges nudged me to examine my assumptions and push beyond my boundaries of thinking, leading, and taking action. Anyone with big ideas, big aspirations and big problems will love this approach to digging deep and emerging with new energy and mindset."" -Joanne Shoveller, Past President, International Business University; International education advisor; President, Overture Consulting Inc. ""This book couldn't be more timely. In a world still clinging to outdated definitions of success, Terrie offers a refreshing, non-prescriptive invitation to rethink what work and leadership can be. She invites us to question the inherited scripts about work we've mistaken for truth and offers ways to shift our deeply ingrained habits that continue to foster stress, ineffectiveness, and disconnection. With uncommon wisdom and clarity, she shows us how to create more satisfying, bold, and human ways of working. It's a worthy read for any professional."" -Marie-Veronique Clement, PhD, Academic and Newfield Certified Coach(c), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry, National University of Singapore, Singapore ""This book offers a bold new perspective on working, leading, and living with greater success, satisfaction, and meaning at a time when so much about work feels overwhelming or disconnected. In knowing Terrie for many years, I admire how she helps individuals and organizations see the world-and themselves-through new lenses. This practical and inspiring book challenges outdated assumptions that keep us stuck. She invites us to find a deeper sense of purpose at work and beyond."" -Bob Dunham, Founder of the Institute for Generative Leadership; co-author of The Innovator's Way and The Power of Owning Up

Author Information

Terrie has spent decades leading teams and coaching executives around the globe. Her conclusion: work isn't working. Even with talent and good intentions, we are stuck inside broken rules and invisible scripts that leave most people burned out, dissatisfied, stressed, and unfulfilled.Terrie's gift is her gentle irreverence. She questions what others won't or don't see and, with respect and care, opens the door to different ways of working that bring more impact, bolder results, and greater well-being. Her deep curiosity about how work itself can be a spiritual practice infuses her writing and coaching, inviting people to show up at work with more awareness, courage, and humanity. Regardless of circumstances, we still have power and self-agency over how we show up and, in doing so, we can bring our vastness to work instead of shrinking ourselves to fit in.A global coach educator for over two decades, she is considered a pioneer in the coaching profession. She was a founding member of the Association of Coach Training Organizations and is a former global board member of the International Coaching Federation. She believes that coaching was actually born for these times and that coaches (and the clients they serve) must expand and deepen their awareness to best serve in these chaotic and uncertain times. When she's not writing or coaching, you can usually find her hiking or biking in the Colorado mountains, chasing her much-needed fix of ocean time, savoring a really good cup of coffee, or lingering with the timeless words of the great philosophers and wisdom teachers.
