She is a graduate of the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She is a Registered Nurse and served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Nurse Corps, serving at the rank of Captain. In the Army, Tori worked the ortho-surgical floor, recovery room, and the surgical intensive care unit. While stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, she nursed soldiers assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division and U.S. Army Special Forces. After the Army, Tori managed her large farm for several years. She worked more than 1,500 clinical hours as an intern midwife and became a Certified Professional Midwife. Certified Labor Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, and Certified Lactation Educator were additional credentials. She received specialized training in waterbirth by Waterbirth International. Tori's unique career included NICU nurse, birth center staff nurse, labor delivery nurse, and C-section circulator nurse. As a Certified Professional Midwife, she delivered babies in home settings, including Mennonite and Amish farms. She was immersed in a multitude of cultures within the realm of childbirth, including overseas in India. Her broad experience in birth settings includes hospitals, birth centers, homes, outdoor births, and out-of-country births. She opened her beloved home, Hope House, to birthing women who needed a safe, loving birth space. For years, Tori generously served as a preceptor to intern midwives. She worked as adjunct faculty at the University of North Alabama serving as a clinical supervisor for nursing students in maternity rotations. She was appointed by the Alabama Governor and confirmed by the Alabama State Senate to serve on the first Alabama State Board of Midwifery. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of North Alabama, speaking about natural childbirth, midwifery, herbs, and cultural aspects of birth.
