Overview

★★★★★ ""A must-read: shift your view on how it feels to be in depression!"" - Reader review___ When Ella, a former Israeli intelligence commander, finds herself lifeless on the bathroom floor, she realizes it is time to make a drastic change in her seemingly ""perfect"" life. Ella admits to herself she is an addict, the drug of her choice is not substances, but people and codependency. Unhealthy obsessions have led her to dark places full of emotional chaos. Ella starts her journey of finding truth, deep love, and dark secrets while bouncing between people-pleasing and control, doubt and certainty, marriage and divorce, and life and death. Ella leaves her birthplace of Jerusalem for a place where she can better discover who it is that she is called to be. She comes to Los Angeles, determined to build a life free from the straitjacket of expectations. In L.A., Ella finds new depths of courage, unconventional new romances, and Dan, the father of her children and the catalyst to transform her life. Surrounded by addictions, Ella discovers that she has her own addictions, which are rooted in her 'Good Girl' childhood. She movingly maps the breakdown of a marriage and the struggle to present a brave face for her young children, and most importantly, Ella's relentless commitment to learning a healthier, more authentic, and joyous way to live. UnAddicted to You is a combination of a woman's powerful coming of age memoir and a potentially life-changing addiction self-help book, inspiring an interactive quest that will help you to find your true light, grounded spirituality, and sobriety. This book reminds us that no one really knows the struggles that others are going through at any given time. The author shares with us her own very personal story in an extremely vulnerable way. The eldest of six children, she uses her incredible talents to attain many achievements at a young age, but unfortunately, this leads her to the point of needing to attain perfection in all areas of her life. For reasons that made sense at the time, she makes herself a promise at a young age to never get divorced. As you might imagine, the circumstances of her marriage force her to reconsider this promise and ultimately she makes the right decision to end it and start her life over, as dealing with an addict ultimately rarely really leaves one with a legitimate choice. Her husband's addiction was more classic, but it was eye opening to me to read how her addiction was her codependency with the addict. The author takes on some serious and intense issues yet does so in a way that makes it easy to relate to and her writing style and sense of humor had me hurrying to start a new chapter as soon as i finished the last one. While the circumstances in my life are completely different than hers (different sex, religion, upbringing, etc.) somehow there were multiple issues in her story that triggered many thoughts on the issues I have faced in my life and how I've chosen to deal or not deal with them in the past. This is an extraordinary story written by an extraordinary woman and I highly recommend reading this book.
